GRIEFSHARE

"GriefShare helped me to know I am not alone."

- Kathleen, GriefShare participant

GriefShare is a faith-based grief and recovery support group that meets throughout the year at Knightstown Friends Center in Knightstown, Indiana. GriefShare is for adults who have lost a spouse, family member, child, or best friend through death, and features nationally-recognized experts on grief recovery topics. (We apologize, there is no GriefShare available for young children at this time, though there are recommendations and resources available on the GriefShare site here.)

Seminar videos and discussions to include: “Is This Normal?”, “The Challenges of Grief”, “Grief and Your Relationships”, “Why?”, and “Guilt and Anger”. The 13-week agenda features fellowship, light refreshments, videos, and discussion. The cost is $20 for materials (workbook) and, if the cost is prohibitive, there are “scholarships” available.

"GriefShare is a safe place to talk about hard things —
and heal from them."

- Julie, GriefShare participant

The Knightstown Friends Center is next to the church, located just northeast of the town square at the corner of Brown Street and Washington Street (206 East Brown Street, Knightstown, IN 46148 - directions here). You do not need to attend nor belong to a church to attend.

Do you dread the lonely days and nights? Wonder what to do with your spouse’s belongings? Feel like your brain is in a fog? Unsure of how you’ll go on?

At a Loss of a Spouse seminar you’ll discover:

  • Other people understand and have found ways to make it through
  • Why it won’t always hurt so much
  • Reasons for hope
  • Practical tips for coping with the death of a spouse

Join us for the "Loss of a spouse" seminar, a one-time, stand-alone program that will be offered here at the Knightstown Friends Church on Saturday, August 17th from 10am to 12pm in the Friends Center (206 E. Brown St, Knightstown). Anyone who has lost their spouse or partner are welcome, and supportive friends and family members are welcome to bring or accompany the bereaved individuals.

Topics that will be covered are:

  • Should I be surprised by my grief reactions?
  • What's going on with my body?
  • Why does my grief come out of nowhere?
  • What if I can't stop crying?
  • Is it ok if I don't dry?
  • Can I numb my pain?
  • How can I deal with loneliness?
  • Will it help if I go to God?
  • Can I be honest with God?
  • More topics deal with moving forward into a "new normal"

This one-time program is similar to the regular 13-week GriefShare session format and will include a booklet, video, and discussion. Registration for "Loss of a Spouse" is now available on the GriefShare platform (https://www.griefshare.org/loss/events/8227).
